2014 Sunshine Coast Dance Eisteddfod

On Friday May 2 2014, 27 of our Dance Extension students travelled to The Events Centre in Caloundra to compete in our first dance competition of the year - The Sunshine Coast Dance Eisteddfod.  The students had been rehearsing since the beginning of term one, three times a week after school to prepare for the competition and as always, did Tullawong State High School and the Dance Extension Program proud.  Students performed two contrasting contemporary dance works – a classical based piece titled “Orchestra” which explored the musicality and artistry of dance and a more modern work “Spider” which saw the students embody a very animalistic style of dance.
Both troupes performed flawlessly on stage and their technique, confidence, teamwork and professionalism on stage was evident by the amazing feedback received by parents, friends, families and also staff and students of other schools at the competition.  Our school stood out with the creativity of the choreography, striking costuming and professionalism of the dancers both on and off stage.  At the end of the evening, both troupes placed second overall out of 39 dance works which is an outstanding result. We are looking forward to receiving our ribbons and critique sheet from the adjudicator in the mail very shortly.
Miss Wells and Miss Gray-Hanna would like to thank each and every student for their dedication and passion to dance.  The hard work, blood, sweat, tears, blisters and injuries all paid off and we are so proud of you all.
