2018 Kokoda Challenge

16/07/2018
Recently our school participated in the Jim Stillman Cup as part of the Kokoda Challenge. Starting at 11am on Saturday morning 4 teams consisting of 4 students and 1 teacher walked 48km (actually we measured more than 50Km) through the Gold Coast Hinterlands to Nerang. Over the trek, each team saw their support crew twice, once after around 10km for lunch and then again after around 30km for dinner. The support crew was made up of 7 very dedicated Tullawong staff members who gave up their weekend to help the teams across the line by preparing sandwiches, lolly bags, hot food and drinks, emergency taping and words of encouragement and inspiration. Conditions were perfect and much improved on the rain soaked challenges we have over the last two years. Each team performed excellently and overcame a number of difficulties to complete the Kokoda Challenge in the following:ecenour school participated in the Jim Stillman Cup as part of the Kokoda Challenge. Each team performed excellently and overcame a number of difficulties to complete the Kokoda Challenge in the following:

TSHS 1 - 12h49mins - finished at 12:04am
TSHS 2 - 14h 30mins - finished at 1:45am
TSHS 3 - 17h 17mins - finished at 4:32am
TSHS 4 - 13h 20 mins - finished at 12:35am

This has been one of the most successful years for our school with 19 of 20 participants finishing. We had some of the quickest times over our 4 year involvement and have raised $4745.75 for the Kokoda Youth Foundation. However, most importantly this year’s group displayed tremendous resilience. This year we had a number of issues with injuries, sickness and weather yet when things got difficult the group always made sure to look out for each other.

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has been involved in the Kokoda Challenge, from the parents who have spent hours driving to and from trainings, to the staff who give up mornings, lunchtimes, afternoons and weekends to make this possible, and especially to the students who every year keep inspiring us and making us proud with their attitude, commitment and dedication. Thanks everyone for such a great year!
