Casual Teacher Aides

We are currently seeking dedicated and professional Teacher Aides to join our school on a casual basis.

As a Teacher Aide you will contribute to the provision of a quality educational service by assisting and supporting teachers with the preparation and enhancement of learning materials and associated activities.

Hours of casual work can vary between 8:30am and 2:30pm, from Monday to Friday.

All casual shifts offered will be for a minimum period of 3:00 hours in duration. Your availability will be registered with the school and casual shifts will be offered according to school needs.

As a Teacher Aide, you will have responsibility for the following -

  • Assisting teachers and students with sporting activities and with school excursions.
  • Assisting with the management and stocktaking of equipment and resources.
  • Communicating effectively and displaying high level of interpersonal skills to function as an effective team member.
  • Maintaining anecdotal records on students for use in reviewing student's development.
  • Displaying respect and empathy for students with high level needs.
  • Displaying confidentiality, tact, reliability and sensitively to students and their families.
  • The compiling and supervising of class rolls.
  • Clerical assistance duties including typing teachers' notes and work programs, duplicating and photocopying teaching materials, checking bus lists, collation and duplication of exam papers, recording of examination results, compiling students results records, assisting in organising off site activities etc.
  • Assisting in the supervision of education activities, under the direction of a teacher.
  • Assisting in preparing, storing, making available and clearing away teaching equipment and materials.
  • Assisting teaching staff with playground and bus supervision.
  • Collecting money from students for various school activities as required.
  • Contributing to the welfare, health and safety of students including the delivery of first aid. Where the teacher aide is required to administer first aid, the teacher aide would be required to be formally trained in the administration of first aid, and keep such qualifications current. All costs associated with obtaining and maintaining qualifications would be met from school funds.
  • Assist students with special needs, this may in certain circumstances extend to moving disabled pupils, assisting with positioning, assisting with meals, toileting and dressing of pupils unable to care for themselves. Suitable training is essential.
  • Listening to students' reading.
  • Reading aloud and storytelling.
  • Assisting with science demonstrations, textile and cooking classes; e.g. collation of food lists, purchasing, preparation and storage of materials.
  • Laundering linens.
  • Care of equipment.
  • Assisting students to find reference materials.
  • Specific Literacy and Numeracy duties may include:
    • support for teachers in providing learning materials for students at risk
    • working with small groups as well as individual students
    • use of computers when working with students.

Requirements for employ​ment with the department –

• You must hold (i.e. have applied for and been issued with) a valid paid Blue Card before you can commence work, and maintain this at all times while employed; and

• Be legally able to work in Australia (you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen, or you hold a valid visa with permission to work. Evidence of Proof of Work Eligibility is required (e.g. Australian or New Zealand Passport, Australian Birth Certificate and photo identification, an overseas passport and authorisation for a check of the Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO)); and

• Successfully undergo a Criminal History Check; and

• Complete the prescribed mandatory training requirements for a Teacher Aide within one (1) week of commencing employment with the department; and maintain mandatory training requirements on an annual basis to be offered continued casual employment.

Please note – the mandatory training will take approximately 3-4 hours of your own time to complete.

Casual Cleaners
We are currently seeking dedicated and proficient Cleaners to join our school on a casual basis.
School Cleaners play a vital role in the school community by reducing the spread of disease through high standards of cleaning practices and keeping the appearance of the school at a high standard. It is the responsibility of cleaners to deliver a clean and hygienic learning environment for all students.
Hours of casual work can vary between 5:00am and 5:30pm, from Monday to Friday. Split shifts or day shifts may be required.
All casual shifts offered will be for a minimum period of 3:00 hours in duration. Your availability will be registered with the school and casual shifts will be offered according to school needs.

As a Cleaner, you will have responsibility for the following -
• Cleaning windows, pictures, doorknobs, taps, sinks, drinking fountains, lavatory basins, glassware, glass doors and cupboards
• Cleaning and sanitising toilet facilities and sick bays
• Cleaning and maintaining equipment
• Cleaning of concrete, bitumen, asphalt and paved surfaces
• Disposal of rubbish and litter control including removal of material from drains and gutters between and/or surrounding buildings
• Dusting including student and office furniture, equipment and fans
Hosing
• Removal of graffiti
• Sweeping and vacuuming
• Other appropriate cleaning duties as directed by the Principal / Business Manager
